Judge: Yankees Have Given Enough

The Yankees won a decisive battle in their on-going legal war with Assemblyman Richard L. Brodsky. When we last met our two favorite litigants, the Yankees and Brodsky had failed to settle a dispute over what information would satisfy the requirements of a subpoena issued by Brodsky, seeking documents pertaining to the financing of the construction of Yankee Stadium. Last week State Supreme Court Justice John C. Egan Jr. ruled that the Yankees had "made a good-faith effort to comply with the subpoena, culling through and producing a great deal of documents for inspection by the Corporations Committee,” which Brodsky chairs.

From the New York Times:

Egan called it “unreasonable” for the Yankees to go through more than 2,000 boxes of documents and more than one million e-mails to comply with the “overly broad” subpoena.

“Subpoenas should not be used as fishing expeditions,” he wrote. He added that the more appropriate target of Brodsky’s investigation into public financing of stadiums for privately-owned businesses like the Yankees should be the city and not the team.

The Big East is thinking of putting a bowl game in New York City. Obviously, Yankee Stadium is being considered as a location, but expect Citi to start putting itself out there as well.

A couple of great links from the LoHud Yankees Blog:

NaviNet, a medical communications company based in Cambridge, MA, is having a company-wide fund-raising drive for the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism Research. The NaviNet employee who raises the most money will get to present the company's check on the mound at Fenway Park in September. Sachin Bhatt, a NaviNet employee and Yankee fan, has promised that if he wins he will present the check while wearing his Yankee hat. This is a great opportunity to find out just how willing the Red Sox are to boo anything Yankee. Go to Sachin's fund-raising page to contribute.

There's some sort of green moss growing all over the upper deck of the still-not-demolished old Yankee Stadium. Just a terrible sight to behold.
