Facing a $10 billion budget gap, Governor Cuomo has announced that he is going to close seven prisons in New York State, including  Fulton Correctional Facility in the Bronx. According to the governor's office, closing the seven prisons and moving the inmates to other facilities will save $184 million over the next two years.

Jazz musician Bobby Sanabria from the Bronx is accusing the Grammy Awards and Recording Academy of being racist. Sanabria is filing a class action lawsuit due to the fact that 31 categories were cut from the awards show. He claims the academy is "putting popularity ahead of excellence and turning its back on countless artists."

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. is launching the city's first ever SalsaFest. From July 7-10 there will be various outdoor and indoor concerts, special tours, a salsa trolley, and of course, dancing throughout the entire borough. "The Bronx helped propel salsa into an international phenomenon, and we’re welcoming visitors and native New Yorkers to experience it here in a new annual celebration,” Diaz said.

Wednesday was a sad day at St. Dominic School in Van Nest. The school shut it's doors this week, as part of the Archdiocese of New York's reconfiguration plan.

A net in the Bronx Courthouse designed to prevent pigeon droppings from sticking to windows, has become a death trap.Several court employees are upset about the fact that many birds have gotten stuck in the net and died. The Department of Citywide Administrative Services said they are looking for alternatives in order to protect both the birds and the building.

Woodlawn Cemetery has recently been labeled as a National Historic Landmark. According to the Wall Street Journal, the cemetery has been given this honor because of it's "outstanding landscape design, collection of art and architecture, and its role in memorializing prominent Americans."

No Philharmonic concerts in outer-borough parks this summer, including the popular one held in Van Cortlandt Park over the last several years, though the orchestra's music director vowed to bring them back next summer.
