The death of cult leader and LaRouche supporter, Fred Newman has other Bronx connections, beside the fact that Newman was born here.
ReplyDeleteFred Newman and his New Alliance Party played a key role in the political career of Pedro Espada, Jr. Espada ran openly for city council as a New Alliance Party candidate. Former members of Newman's cult allege that Newman forced them to petition for Espada. Fred Newman admitted that Espada was close to him personally and to the New Alliance Party. In 2009 Newman was quoted as saying, "We’ve (he and Espada) sat in my home on many occasions and talked politics. He’s (Espada) always been supportive of the New Alliance Party.” Lest we think Espada's connection to Newman and his cult was only in the past, Newman's closest ally, Lenora Fulani, endorsed Espada in the last primary cycle and, as this website reported, Newman/Fulani followers were out canvassing for Espada on primary day:

Here is one of the supporters Rev. Diaz so proudly touts in his press release:
ReplyDeleteUnification Church in Latham, NY
Great -- our homophobic Senator is proud of his support from the Unification Church, aka, the Moonies. It is one thing to get the support of this homophobic cult of personality -- it is quite another thing to tout it. It is really telling that the Senator doesn't have one person on his staff who could warn him that he may not want to be so proud of his Moonie support.
Here are some quotes from Rev. Moon, the self-proclaimed "Messiah" and "Emperor of the Universe":
"Look at New York City. It is actually hell. Every night there are thousands of sins committed. . . murder, prostitution, drugs, homosexuality and free sex. This city continues in a hellish way. It prospers under Satan's control."
"Free sex, homosexuality and lesbianism are exactly opposite to God's purpose of creation...Only the Unification Church is free of family problems, free of AIDS, homosexuality and free sex."
"There will be a purge on God's orders, and evil will be eliminated like shadows. Gays will be eliminated, the 3 Israels will unite. If not then they will be burned. We do not know what kind of world God will bring but this is what happens. It will be greater than the communist purge but at God's orders."
Another supporter Senator Diaz is so proud to have in his corner --Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern. Here are a few choice quotes from her:
"We have a high percentage of blacks in prison, and that’s tragic, but are they in prison just because they are black or because they don’t want to study as hard in school? I’ve taught school, and I saw a lot of people of color who didn’t study hard because they said the government would take care of them."
"Studies show that no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted more than, you know, a few decades. So it's the death knell of this country. I honestly think it's the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam — which I think is a big threat, okay? Cause what's happening now is they are going after, in schools, two-year olds...And this stuff is deadly, and it's spreading, and it will destroy our young people, it will destroy this nation."
When will a credible opponent in 2012 come forward? When will responsible Bronx Democratic elected leaders with integrity step forward and say "Enough!" Rev. Diaz must not be re-elected. He is an embarrassment to the Bronx. His persistent anti-gay actions and rantings are real threats to the lives and safety of LGBT Bronxites.
