When Bronx Guild High School teacher Stacy McCoy began a program in which her students were asked to create digital stories about their communities she was overwhelmed by their responses and inquiries.
This prompted McCoy to apply for a Fund for Teachers grant, which she was awarded. The grant enabled her to attend a four-week film-making workshop in Florence, Italy through the New York Film Academy.
Eventually, the grant funded Stacey to stay another month in Florence to create a documentary on how film fits into the legacy of Western art history. Additionally she was asked to hit the streets of Florence on a daily basis and create her own short film projects.
