Are Manhattan Playgrounds Better Than Bronx Playgrounds?

Kristin Hart, president of the Fort Independence Park Neighborhood Association (FIPNA), a civic group in Kingsbridge Heights, recently posted this article to the organization's blog that explored the differences between playgrounds in Manhattan and the Bronx. Hart's conclusion is that Manhattan playgrounds are newer and more imaginative than Bronx playgrounds. (It seems that sandboxes, something synonymous with kids and play, are hard to come by in Bronx playgrounds.)

On a related note, I spent more than 2 months in Budapest in 2008 and spent a lot of time every week in various playgrounds in the city with my then 4-year-old daughter. There was a lot of sand, and a lot of really interesting play equipment like a zipwire in our local park. The same was true in Prague and Berlin where we also spent some time. They were all just a load of fun. It made me wonder why playgrounds were so cookie-cutter at home.

So, take a look at Hart's post and let us know what you think of the playgrounds in your Bronx neighborhood.
