NEW YORK CITY’S STRONGEST ARMS BATTLE FOR BRONX BRAGGING RIGHTS
Bronx, NY. June 4, 2009 - Spectators are invited to watch or flex their muscles as the Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. and The Bronx Tourism Council hosts the 26th Annual White Castle ‘Bronxboro’ Armwrestling Championships with over 100 contestants competing in categories for amateurs and pros. The event will be held Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Bronx Week Food and Arts Festival at 1 p.m. on the MAIN STAGE at Mosholu Parkway South between Van Cortlandt Ave. East and Bainbridge Ave., Bronx, NY. 10451. Contestants should register and weigh-in early. Free entry and admission will be provided for everyone in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Grand Concourse.
There are up to twelve weight classes with right and left hand categories for men and women, including men’s 45+ years’ old master class. The “Bronx Strongest Arm” male and female MVP’s will be crowned and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place award winners will qualify for the Empire State Golden Arm Tournament of Champions to be held at The Port Authority Bus Terminal on November 12. The NY 'Golden Arm' Series consists of up to seven preliminary championships in each of the five NYC Boroughs and Long Island and culminates into a NY State Final. – Contestants must be at least 16 years old and if under 18; must have a parent or guardian signed approval. There are no residency requirements.
Gene Camp, Founder and President of the New York Arm Wrestling Association, said, “The White Castle Bronxboro Arm Wrestling Championships reflects a home-grown captive, cheering audience and free fun-filled day for everyone.” Camp continued, “We are excited about the opportunity to participate in the Bronx Week festivities and the 100th anniversary of the Grand Concourse. This gives us an opportunity to crown the Bronx Strongest Arm at a prestigious and unique festival atmosphere and a wonderful opportunity to showcase the first event of the 2009 multi-event New York Golden Arm Series.”
Two upcoming series events include Brooklyn’s Strongest Arm – White Castle Kingsboro Championships on July 25 in Coney Island and White Castle Long Island Scottish Games Championships in Old Westbury, LI. on August 22.
