New in Norwood News

Fresh off the press, the new Norwood News is on streets and online now, just in time for the weekend. Here's a quick preview to whet your appetite:

A quartet of local teachers, all formerly of the Bronx New School (PS 51), are creating a new charter school in the northwest Bronx geared toward heavy community involvement.

Crime-weary residents in North Fordham reacted positively when 52nd Precinct Commander James Alles addressed some of their concerns at a recent community meeting at Our Lady of Refuge Church.

Two young men, one from Soundview, the other from Norwood, are being charged with attempted murder in the shooting of Knox-Gates resident Michael Santiago, who was shot in the back two and a half months ago and remains paralyzed.

Montefiore Medical Center, the largest private employer in the Bronx, announced its new president.

In our supplement, the first of two, there's a story about the state of hunger help in the Bronx and how soup kitchens are battling to keep food on the table despite waning assistance from the government.

Plus, a Foodtown lockout ends, local playwright Felix Leon dies, and why we need to pay attention to our youth.

There's a tree lighting tonight at 7 p.m. in Bryan Park, at East Fordham and East Kingsbridge roads. Read about this event and loads of other fun things to do in our Out & About section.

Have a good weekend!

  1. Once again, you ask for community information. Once again, we provide it to you and once again-you refuse to cover Non Hospital related community information-----or i guess Assemblyman Dinowitz upcoming sppech on "Human Trafficking" on Thurs Dec 6th at the 500 seat Lovinger Theature is not that important in the Norwood sense of things-but---it is being held in Community district 7, by Community District 7's assemblyman-----by a local Norwood News area group "North Bronx Thinktank"-and oh yes, Assemblyman Dinowitz IS THE SPONSER OF THE BILL ITSELF. one wonders if "another newspaper" is needed to cover THE REAL North Bronx stories. thank You Once again, Alex Kratz & The Norwood News for Not covering The Real Non Monte Related community events

  2. My apologies. That was our mistake. The event at Lehman College was an event we wanted to put in our Neighborhood Notes section, but because of an oversight on our part, it didn't make it. Please, don't let this discourage you from alerting us of events in the future.

And if you have any photos or information from the event, we'd love to see them and perhaps publish them on our blog or Web site.

Thanks for your input and feedback, we welcome your comments.

  3. thank you for answering me back. We will try hard to not let this incident discourage us from providing to the Norwood News events or stories surrounding our lovely community.

But please understand, your "oversights" are hard to swallow after the 3rd incident (mentioned above) in a year-which I believe you just started. While I again wish you the very best of luck & success working with our community newspaper, I noticed your recent "promotion" to Senior Editor, which I would sincerely ask for better "oversight". Thank You.

While sadly 'at this moment' I do not have pictures, i will send your office a full News Release in a few days for your review. Over 75 attendees watched a FREE MOVIE on Human trafficking called "Trade", tool part in a "candlelight vigil" with Amnesty International & Then heard Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz go over the history of new new piece of legislation.
