Bronx Youth Journalism Initiative--Deadline Extended!
During the semester, students will learn the fundamentals of writing, reporting, and photojournalism through classroom instruction and hands-on reporting in their own neighborhoods. Their work gets published in a special youth supplement called Bronx Youth Heard, which appears in the Norwood News, giving youth a powerful voice--not to mentioned a real, bylined news clip for their college applications and portfolios.
We are looking for students of all academic abilities, but they should be highly motivated, love to write, be naturally inquisitive, and care about what's going on in their communities. Free Journalism Program for Bronx High School Students

We take them on field trips including the newsroom of a daily newspaper. They will learn about community activism and civic responsibility, how their neighborhoods work (or don't), who has power, who doesn't and why.

Bronx Youth Journalism Program--Deadline Extended!
The Bronx News Network, in collaboration with College Now, is running a free journalism program for Bronx high school students. We've extended our deadline to this Friday, Jan. 28, and we're looking for a few more eager applicants.
Applications can be downloaded here. On a separate piece of paper, please also tell us about yourself, your academic and extra-curricular interests, and why you are applying to this program. Your essay should be at least 400 words long and must be typed. Fax both your essay and the completed application form to our office at (718) 324-2917.
The next semester starts on Feb. 2. Classes will be held at Hostos Community College at 450 Grand Concourse on Wednesday afternoons from 4 to 6 p.m., and run for 12 weeks.

High School Journalism Program
The editors and reporters of the Norwood News and the Mount Hope Monitor are running a youth journalism program for Bronx high school students who are sophomores, juniors or seniors.
Classes will begin on Feb. 4 and run every Wednesday for 12 weeks, from 4 to 6 p.m. They will be held at 2001 Morris Ave., in office space provided by Mount Hope Housing Company.
Students will learn the fundamentals of writing, reporting, and photojournalism through classroom instruction, and, more importantly, through hands-on reporting in their own neighborhoods.
Guest speakers will include reporters from the city's daily newspapers.
Best of all, student work will be published in a special youth supplement called Bronx Youth Heard, which will appear in the Norwood News, Mount Hope Monitor, and Highbridge Horizon, another community newspaper the west Bronx, giving Bronx youth a powerful voice in their own communities.
We are looking for students of all academic abilities, but students should be highly motivated, love to write, be naturally inquisitive, and care about what's going on their communities.

The West Bronx Youth Journalism Initiative
. Mosholu Preservation Corporation's high school journalism program is profiled in this week's City Limits.
The program, which started in February, aims to teach students how to report and write. Earlier this month, their stories and photos were published in the Norwood News and Mount Hope Monitor, in a new supplement called "Bronx Youth Heard." You can read it here. The supplement will also appear in April's Highbridge Horizon, coming out Thursday.
We're planning another edition of Bronx Youth Heard in May, and two more in the fall, when we'll be running the program again. Registration for the fall session starts soon. Check back for updates. In the meantime, if you'd like more information, please e-mail mounthopenews[at]gmail.com.
