Story of the (Last Few) Days: P.S. 51 Will Move to St. Martin of Tours
At an emotional two-hour meeting last Thursday, Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott announced that P.S. 51, or the Bronx New School, will be moving into the building that housed former catholic school St. Martin of Tours--located over two miles away in Crotona. The failure of the DOE to recognize the high levels of dangerous chemicals that contaminated the Bedford Park school has left parents angry and wanting more than the apology and an information packet given. "I needed some solid answers and I don't think I got that," one parent told NY1.
A group of PS 51 parents are holding their own meeting tomorrow night.

Valentine's Day Events
Happy Valentine's, Bronxites! Wishing you a lovely day, whether you're single or paired up this year. Here are some events taking place in the borough in honor of the day of love.
--Councilman Joel Rivera and Bronx AIDS Services will be offering free HIV tests at 1901 Southern Blvd, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Results are available in as little as 20 minutes. Free HIV counseling also available.
--The Bronx Health Center is hosting a discussion on safer sex practices and improving your relationship with your partner today at 1 p.m., at 975 Westchester Ave. Call the center at (718) 320-4466 or email info@chnnyc.org for more information.
--The Bronx Council on the Arts invites you to a free concert, "Love, Love, Love! A Celebration of Love Through Song," at City Island’s Pilot Cove Manor Community Room, 160 Pilot Street. The show will feature soprano Elizabeth Farnum accompanied by her husband, Kenneth Farnum, Jr., on piano.

"Coming Out" Event at Hostos Tonight
The New York Times' Sam Dolnick had a story today--in the wake of the heinous bias attacks that happened two weeks ago--about the hardships of being openly gay in the Bronx.
"Gay and lesbian residents said it can be especially difficult to be gay in the Bronx, given the macho culture of the street, the local gang codes and the rise of storefront churches that call homosexuality a sin," the story reads. Click here for the rest of the article.
"The outer boroughs, areas outside of lower Manhattan, remain homophobic areas," said Brad Cauthen of Bronx Aids Services, which runs a 16-week program for gay men of color that focuses on sexuality, health and self-esteem. There are other resources available to the LGBT community in the Bronx. The Bronx Community Pride Center and the Hispanic Aids Forum are two organizations worth checking out.
