Nick Judd at the Riverdale Press has a terrific piece looking back on how Lorraine Coyle Koppell's unsuccessful challenge to Republican senator Guy Velella (violating a non aggression pact between Democrats and the sole Republican elected official in the borough at that time) set off a chain reaction of political chess moves that has resulted in Riverdalians getting three powerful Democrats to represent them in the state Senate.
