Bronx News Roundup for March 9

A month and a half after we reported that State Senator Pedro Espada does not have a district office, Boogiedowner says he still doesn’t have one and that his Senate Web page has no specific contact info and a contact form that doesn't work.


The city is still set on hiring an outside contractor to oversee the Croton Filtration Plant in Van Cortlandt Park.


Two years after a horrific fire killed 9 kids and 1 adult in Highbridge, a local school and the Fire Department are focusing on fire safety. (Check your smoke detectors, everyone!)


Nick Judd at the Riverdale Press runs down the still unsettled race for borough president.


John DeSio reports that Israel Ruiz is not running for borough president, is supporting Ruben Diaz’ bid for that job, and will himself run for Council in a growing field of candidates hoping to unseat Maria Baez in District 14.
