No More City Section?

Looks like the City Section of the New York Times may close for good in a few weeks, according to New York Magazine.

  1. So in an era in which "hyper-local" is the new media buzz-word, the paper of record is cutting back on its local coverage.

  2. That's true and the loss will be felt. I look forward to reading it each week, for sure.

But take note: the City Section has never been very Bronx friendly (nor has the Times for that matter!). A few years back I did a study over a period of four months of the number of stories the City section had on each borough and, though i no longer have the numbers available, suffice to say, their record on the Bronx was not impressive.

This "de-localization" of large media is epidemic. Local radio in New York City is a thing of the past ... and did you ever try to get a legitimate Bronx news story on one of the netowork TV news shows? Oy!
