ReplyDeleteNot for nothing, but Rivera was a big disappointment on BronxNet. What's with all the name-dropping! And he expects the local elected officials to work with him? Don't you mean the other way around!
He sounded like an arrogant, broken record with nothing to show other than his endorsements. Hey buddy, the only endorsement that matters is the voters, and you are going to have to work harder than that if you expect to get any votes...
rivera failed to prove that he's done anything in the community. that's a no-no...i mean, i hate espada as much as the next guy but at least he drops checks occasionally. dan seemed more community rooted than he did. this is gonna be an interesting race to say the least
ReplyDeleteHere is the dirty little secret that no one, especially those endorsing Rivera, wants to admit to, they would rather vote for an empty suit that will commit to towing the party line (maybe?) than a credible, independent candidate that might push back.
ReplyDeleteEven dirtier secret, how much do you think this is really about the political establishment keeping a hispanic on the seat at all costs (maybe even Pedro too!), no matter how unqualified, than to see it go to a non-hispanic? Totally BS!
Rivera played around with answers, just wanted to focus on the endorsements. What a shame.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they should have told Espada that the interview would have been in a boxing ring, then he would have showed up! LOL.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if there are going to be other debates? This one was too short and didn't take questions from the public.
ReplyDeletePadernacht demonstrated qualities of a fine candidate. It is unfortunate that the local politicians have shut him out and backed someone that has no idea what the real problems are.
ReplyDeleteDiaz Jr., Ferrer, Dinowitz all should be ashamed that they haven't given Padernacht a shot. And Diaz never even heard what Padernacht had to say. Sad day for Bronx politicians.
Forgot the politicians, what about us?
ReplyDeletePadernacht was shut out by everyone for one reason: he's white. Nothing else matters in Bronx politics. If a Spanish speaking or black candidate were shunned the way Dan has been there would be protests from all kinds of organizations. This type of racism is sickening. Simply because he's white, comes from a family that was successful in real estate, and went to Fordham Prep ( and practices law) he is automatically 'the Man' or a bad guy.
ReplyDeleteI agree...Rivera is an empty suit and an establishment candidate (hence the plethora of endorsements). It is unfortunate that his last name is his most qualifying characteristic to the politicians and more importantly, to the electorate. I don't fault the local pols for endorsing Rivera because their constituents (at least those who vote) would be outraged if they were to endorse a white (albeit better) candidate. It is a sad, sad, reality that has to change. If Padernachts last name was Rodriguez this would be a completely different race.
ReplyDeleteWow. Can BNN check IP addresses? All of the above comments clearly come from one person. It really makes it very annoying to have to deal with these "anonymous" posts when trying to read about what is happening in the Bronx.
ReplyDeleteDon't the people in Danny's campaign office have better things to do than troll these posts?
Also, as I read more and more messaging pushed by his campaign, it's quite clear that it is VERY RACIST! This talk about "OUR" and being "born here" is mildly veiled anti-hispanic sentiment. It's very sad to see that this kind of racism still exists in a diverse urban place like that Bronx.
should have had the Green candidate there too
ReplyDelete@anonymous 1:16:00am
ReplyDeleteThe upcoming election is for the Democratic primary and it would not have been appropriate nor necessary to have the Green Party candidate on this show. We'll take a look at that after Primary Day.
FYI - last year we gave a Green Party city council candidate a full half hour. so there's no attempt on behalf of BronxTalk to eliminate points of view... especially that one!
@ Andrea:
ReplyDeleteHow does stating that he was born in the Bronx convey a racist message from the Padernacht campaign?
@Andrea
ReplyDeleteAre you or are you not aware of the fact that the New York metropolitan area is the largest melting pot of people from all over the world since the 1900's. By Mr. Padernacht stating that he is proud of being born and raised in the Bronx his whole life is a testament to the fact that his family is proud of where they live and of everyone who resides in their community. Your statement that he is conveying a racist message because he was not born in a hispanic or non-hispanic country is in itself a racist and anti-american remark. Mr. Padernacht more so than his co-candidate respects all the constituents in his community and the customs and traditions they have brought with them. Let's try to respect and appreciate all the people we share a planet with (even politicians), and if you don't have anything nice to say....keep it to yourself!
@Andrea, very typical political whining, don't like what you hear and you jump on the "They're all racist!" bandwagon. If you and "Empty Suit" Rivera don't have the stomach for this, you both shouldn't be in this game. If Rivera can't debate ALL his contenders and try to hide under a rock instead, he shouldn't be in this game. And if he thinks he is just going to "assume" leadership without offering substance, he shouldn't be in this game...
ReplyDeleteAnd if it doesn't work out, you both can go find a job at the Armory!!! (Oops! Maybe in ten years...)
Well, he did it. Padernacht convinced me...to vote for his dad.
ReplyDeleteLike the phrase Dan seems to be so very fond of - At the end of the day, there is no substance there. I didn't hear one concrete plan come out of his mouth. Not a single legislative plan to improve the Bronx. All I heard was that his family has lived in the district for years. His dad was a good guy. And that he was born in the Bronx. His family. His family. His family. Since the sum of only those things don't make for a good senator, I certainly know where my vote will not go. We cannot afford to give this senate seat to some novice. We need someone who will know what he is doing, what needs to be done and how to do it from day one. There is a lot of cleaning up to do. This community has been robbed of so much and we cannot leave it in the hands of an inexperienced young man.
I will say that he did look adorable when he said the people from those unions will vote for him. Cute!
I didn't hear a request for specific legislative question asked on the show. Using your own criteria, Rivera doesn't qualify to have this seat either.
ReplyDeleteAt the end, I would rather have someone who is invested then an opportunist. Maybe you should watch the video a few more times so that you can understand better what everyone else is seeing.
