Last week, we linked to a story about the murder of Jack Hewitt, 53, a resident of the Tracey Towers high-rise apartment complex on Mosholu Parkway. Hewitt was stabbed to death early Wednesday morning, Dec. 8 while his wife had stepped outside to take out the garbage.
The next day, police arrested another Tracey resident, Horace Nichols, 38, and charged him with the murder of Hewitt. He was arraigned on Friday and will return to court tomorrow. He has yet to enter a plea. The Daily News reported that Hewitt's wife told police that Hewitt had been arguing with her son. It's unclear if Nichols is related Hewitt or his wife.
And in an update of story we linked to earlier today, police say they have identified and arrested a suspect in the shooting of an off-duty NYPD detective Sunday morning outside of the Pelham Bay Diner on the far east end of Gun Hill Road.
Police say they arrested Samuel Ventura in Waterbury, Conn., earlier today.
