Irene's Wrath on Mosholu Parkway

These photographs are of three trees taken down by Irene on Mosholu parkway. The first two photographs are of a tree which provided shade just north of Webster ave. The next two images were made opposite Dewitt Clinton High School, this tree housed a nest of wasps who expressed their need for privacy to me! The last two are of a tree which lived just north of Marion Ave.

  1. I'm sure there are many more, but one that stood out to me was just down the hill from MS80 (west of Van Cortlandt Ave on the north side of the parkway) where one large tree took down two others when it fell towards the parkway.

  2. Gregory, I am sure there are more. I walked down mostly on Mosholu Parkway from Clinton High School to Webster ave, I think I missed it because I took East Mosholu Parkway South to Van Cortlandt Ave East and crossed Van Courtlandt running due to traffic and a blinking walk sign!

  3. Hope you meant "wrath."

  4. i'm not an expert but these photos show that each of these trees were rotten to the core and that's why they couldn't withstand the storm. it's evidence of long term neglect by the parks department.

this was something pointed out by councilman jimmy vacca on BronxTalk last night, that even though they handled the storm responsibly, the city has to do a better job at pruning and caring for its trees. had they done so, these would have had a better chance at surviving the storm and less chance to cause damage to property, the electricity, or even people.

if you didn't see it yet, here's a link to the show:
