As we've been indicating here over the past several days and as confirmed on Liz Benjamin's State of Politics blog, the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) has endorsed activist Desiree Pilgrim-Hunter in her bid to unseat embattled State Senator Pedro Espada, Jr.
This comes as no surprise given the charges against Espada and the close working relationship Pilgrim-Hunter built with RWDSU and its leader Stuart Appelbaum when they teamed up to block the city's plan to turn the Kingsbridge Armory into a shopping mall.
This could be a momentum builder for Pilgrim-Hunter who has been meeting with other labor groups as well.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo filed a second lawsuit against Espada for misdeeds involving his Soundview Health Care Network. Espada quickly shot back, calling Cuomo's attacks an attempt at "political assassination."
