Tonight: Lehman College Hosts 'Take Back the Night' Event

This is from the press release announcing the event:

The Counseling Center at Lehman College will take part in "10 Points of Light to Take Back the Night" on Thursday, April 29, from 6-9 p.m. in the Lovinger Theatre. Lehman will join with other and universities across the country in this annual event, which aims to bring together communities in support of survivors of abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault. It will culminate with a candlelight vigil at exactly 9 p.m.

The evening will begin with a message from Vice President of Student Affairs José Magdaleno, followed by keynote speaker Katie Koestner, executive director of Take Back the Night, and a presentation by the FACES theatre group, which will perform thought-provoking life vignettes. The evening also will include poetry and spoken word performances. Members of the audience will be asked to join in during the "speak out" portion. In addition, as part of the program, participants will walk around the campus.

"The mission of this event is to raise awareness on our campus about the issue of sexual violence, and to let it be known that this violence, or violence of any kind, will not be tolerated in our community or anywhere else," explains Dr. Annecy Baez, director of the Lehman College Counseling Center.

A senior college of the City University of New York, the Lehman campus is located on Goulden Avenue and Bedford Park Boulevard West in the northwest Bronx and is accessible by bus, as well as the #4 and “D” subway lines.
