Espada Concedes

WNYC and their site it's a free country are reporting that incumbent Pedro Espada is conceding. Gustavo Rivera will take the Democratic nomination into the November election.

Here is what NY1 is reporting:

"With 15 percent of precincts reporting in Espada's District 33, Gustavo Rivera held 69 percent of the vote to Espada's 25 percent."

You can read Twitter feeds from Bronx News Network staff on the right. They have more detailed results there from the candidates' after-election parties.

  1. Hmmm. Sounds like fear of a political butt-kicking to me. The Bronx and the rest of NYS is better off without him.

  2. So how long is the lease on that apartment in Bedford Park?

  3. Is that a celebratory exclamation point in the title of this post? Objectivity is not one of this blog's strong suits.

The !!!! is because it's big news. Despite his best (or worst) efforts, Espada lost. And as for objectivity, well, this blog has done more to advocate for the Bronx and its residents than Petey has in his political career.

  5. Exclamation point was also because it happened so early. Most predictions said it wouldn't be decided until 2 or 3 in the morning.

  6. And the !!! probably reflects the joy that real Bronxites feel in seeing the cynical, opportunistic carpetbagger being sent packing back to Mamaroneck.

  7. Gregory Lobo Jost is a fantastic guest blogger on this site who is not a member of the BxNN staff. We rarely, if ever, use exclamation points in headlines so I deleted it. We need to figure out a way of separating staff posts from those of guest bloggers, just so it's clear to readers which posts are from our staff and which aren't. Thanks, Jordan
