Al Sharpton Rallies in the Bronx for Gustavo Rivera

At 11 a.m. this morning, the Rev. Al Sharpton and former NY State Comptroller Carl MaCall will announce their support for Senate candidate Gustavo Rivera at a rally on the corner of Clinton Aveune and Oakland Place in Tremont.

Sharpton officially endorsed Rivera last week, but this is the first time he's campaigned for him in the Bronx.

Former Senate candidate Desiree-Pilgrim Hunter (who dropped out of the race in July) is also expected at the event, which is being organized by the New Roosevelt Initiative, the group founded by businessman Bill Samuels. New Roosevelt is trying to convince voters to dump State Senator Pedro Espada, Jr. in next week's Democratic primary, and has committed $250,000 to the cause.

We'll be there this morning and will have an update later.

  1. We definitely don't need another Al Sharpton in our district... this guy Gustavo is not getting my vote, nor that of my 11 family members who have lived in this district for more than 3 generations...

  2. lol....well emily, while i agree wholehardly and gustavo, as i understand it, burnt a lot of bridges to get this endorsement, maybe, in my opinion, the best part of all this news is that the real and true community candidate (our) Desiree Pilgrim Hunter will now support gustavo. late endorsements from people like desiree show 2 things:
1- Gustavo still has a lot of hard work to do
2- even people sitting on the fence-must make now make a decision.

while our club, like desiree--LIKE KING OF THE BRONX DEMOCRATS-Carl Heastie- decides to be neutral, I now, think, with Desiree's blessing, that for the good of the community---we must ALL NOW RISE UP......oh wait....there are new voting machines right?...(OH OH..lol). Well at least danny boy got what he wanted. come next week, with danny returns to his community board seat he will be the next "Riverdale Star". Word is, Jeffrey Dinowitz is pulling him into his circle now. great reporting james
