A Morning of Endorsements

Pedro Espada's campaign announced early this morning that he would be receiving the endorsement of Assemblyman Jose Rivera, former head of the Bronx Democratic Party, at the Bronx County Courthouse at 11 a.m. The press release also said Espada would receive the backing of "several major Bronx elected officials," but did not name any other than Rivera.

While that's going on the in the Bronx Dan Padernacht, who dropped out of the race over the weekend, will be down at the Municipal Building in lower Manhattan making his endorsement of Gustavo Rivera formal. He'll be joined by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr., Comptroller John Liu, Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, State Senator Liz Krueger, and labor unions.

More on this later.

  1. Someone should suggest to Mr. Padernacht that he take down or change the ad that is on this page.

Hard to figure what the Bronx's Videographer in Chief, Jose Rivera, is up to here? Huge risk to take, Mr. Rivera. Those of us working on ousting Mr. Espada will remember this.

  2. Jose Rivera should think twice about what he is doing -- I am sure the tenants' rights movement, which has spent so much energy on getting rid of Espada, will be very upset to hear of this endorsement. Assemblyman Rivera has a lot of tenant constituents -- they will be reminded of this betrayal in 2012.

  3. Why doesn't Jose Rivera see through this ethically toxic carpetbagger and stay away from him? What could possibly be the reason for his endorsement? When most are avoiding him, why would Jose embrace him?

  4. Rivera being recognized because of supporting BAD TOXIC BRONX SEWAGE (Espada) is not a good thing when it comes to 2012....People tend not to remember but they will never forget. Espada is really TOXIC. It was just a matter of Time, This has nothing to do with being HISPANIC which all of a sudden he remembers he is....he is just STUPID

  5. Slimy Stanley Schlein perhaps is the invisible hand at work behind the Rivera endorsement of Espada? He has connections to both men.

  6. People tend to forget what the mascot of the Democratic Party is. A Jackass. And that's what alot of these Dem politicians are. But the bigger jackasses are the ones who support and vote for them.

  8. We have the precedent of a father pol (Diaz, Sr.) supporting Espada, while the son pol (Diaz, Jr) supports Gustavo.

Alright Councilman Joel Rivera -- show us that you've got some of the same intelligence, guts and independence as BP Diaz. Come out and tell us you think your father is wrong. Endorse Gustavo. Geez, almost every other NYC council person has already. You won't be out on a limb alone. Now is not the time to sit back. If you really are a leader step up and help us get rid of this embarrassment to the Bronx.

  9. Jose Rivera is up for re election this year. He is being challenged by ex cop turn family Lawyer/Lt Commander in the US Coast Guard Reserve, Sergio Villaverde (sergio2010.com). No need to wait until 2012 to vote him out. Anyone seen his track record on his public site? His only original bill was for free admittance to the Bronx Zoo on Wednesdays. He has piggy backed on a lot of other peoples work and takes credit for just saying is in support, but he spends his time arguing about getting paid for editing his videos while up in Albany (you will find him with that video camera in his hand every where) and messing around with that poor excuse of a newsletter that gets sent out almost quarterly filled with nothing but fluff.
