  1. OK people lets start keeping it real. As an outsider I have been watching this race and then checked numbers. And yes Gustavo had a lot of great people helping him, working hard for him and yes he had the unions and elected officials. But they all knew that in the Northwest Bronx someone with the name RIVERA would win. And we all know what RIVERA I am talking about. The video man. All of the Rivera's that ran won with big numbers. So lets keep it real. Thank you Oliver and Jeff for giving us one more Rivera elected official in the Bronx.

  2. Please call in and share those thoughts with Bronx TV viewers. Monday night at 9:00pm. Channel 67. 718-960-7241. if you're outside the BX then watch the live stream at bronxnet.org. go to "watch bronxnet online now", and then click the "67".

p.s. in this case, i don't think this gustavo winning had anything to do with the other rivera's winning their races. analysis of those races is interesting, but separate from gustavo's. if you disagree, call in and have your say.

  3. Gary The analysis in this case is very easy.

A District Map snapshot shows, like in 2008, The 86th Ass District (below Fordham Road) shows a hard core vote case of up to 40% for Espada. The Over Fordham (78th Ad) Voted at least 85% Anti espada...in 2010. In 2008, those numbers were 55% against.

The more important thing is the district percentage. Because the 78/86 Ass Districts basically cover over 80% of the whole race. Thus a 4 to 1 vote gathering in the northern section could not this year be overtaken by the southerners in 2010, unlike 2008, where the overriding numbers in the 86th brought Pedro into office. Remember, in 2008 the Northern Section was 50-50%.

Thus if Pedro Espada runs on the Independance Ticket, he will have a hard core 40% of the 86th Ass Disrtict or a hard core 25% of the total vote going in. Thst in political number terms is scary.

Also note that while The 81st Ass District voted 90-10 for Gustavo, The 10% Riverdale covers in the case only brings 9% of the Gustavo Vote. While impt, like another writer said-lets keep it real:

THE PEOPLE OF BEDFORD PARK, NORWOOD , KINGSBRIDGE and the other residents of The 78th ass Dist did this.

  4. I a not speaking of all the other Rivera's. I am speaking of the RIVERA that has been in the Northwest Bronx for over 28 years. The Video Man. The Unions and the Elected officials knew that a person with the RIVERA name would win there BECAUSE OF HIM. No other Rivera. So yes lets just keep it real.

  5. Mrs. Goldberg says: But Gary I am only going by what Bob Press says. But if you dont think it is truth, then can you explain why the only person that won on Sergio Villaverde slate was a woman named Ana RIVERA. Interesting I would say. The RIVERA name must be strong in the Northwest Bronx.

  6. Mrs. Goldberg: I can't imagine we need to spend more time on this... but is the implication that you simply need to change your name to Rivera and you can win? If true, then we're worse off than I had thought.
