Tolentine Parishioners Thankful Fire Contained; Prayer Vigil Planned for 7 p.m.

Just wanted to let concerned people know that there will be a prayer vigil held tonight outside of St. Nicholas Tolentine Church on the corner of University Avenue and Fordham Road at 7 p.m.

A couple of other quick notes:

--The fire was contained in the vestibule (front area) of the church. The sanctuary was untouched.

--Fire investigators are treating this as "very suspicious." Because of the fire's intensity and how quickly it spread, fire officials say it's unlikely that it was set accidentally.

--The overwhelming feeling among parishioners was one of relief that the fire wasn't worse. Everyone expressed a firm belief that the activist congregation would rebound quickly.

--No parishioners were injured, but a couple of fire fighters sustained minor injuries when plaster feel from the ceiling.

We'll have more on this Monday and in the next edition of the Norwood News.
