Diaz Endorses Cabrera, Calls Him 'Perfect Fit'

In a move that will surprise no one, Ruben Diaz Jr., the Bronx borough president, has endorsed Fernando Cabrera in the 14th District City Council race.

In a press release sent out this afternoon by Cabrera's campaign, Diaz said:

It is rare that you have an opportunity to endorse someone that you feel is a perfect fit. The 14th District needs a strong and visible leader, someone who will stand up for its people, their rights and their desires. Pastor Fernando Cabrera is all that the district needs and more. I look forward to working with him to make the Bronx a better place to live, raise a family and work. I urge everyone in the 14th district cast their vote for him on September 15th.

  1. Diaz is right, of the three candidates, Fernando Cabrera is the better prepared for the job.

  2. shocking endorsement lol.

  3. You consider Cabrera a perfect fit is it because 2 years ago when you were a member of the State Assembly you voted against gay marriage and your position on womens rights are very weak. And is because he graduated from the Jerry Falwell conservative and right wing liberty school and because you father Rev. Diaz is also his mentor. WE NEED A PROGRESSIVE AGENDA MADE UP OF PROGRESSIVE PEOPLE LIKE YUDELKA TAPIA IN THE BRONX.

  4. You are a phony Mr. BP. At the Dominican Day Parade you ask the Dominican People to vote for Yudelka Tapia. YOU ARE A REAL PHONY. WHAT A JOKE.

  5. Cabrera knows nothing about raising a family in the Bronx, because he did it in Pelham. And my bet is that if he wins (god-forbid), he'll be back in his Pelham home by December. Because no sane person that has lived in a HOUSE in an affluent town rid of crime and poverty, would seriously move to a ONE-BEDROOM APARTMENT in a neighborhood ridden with crime and poverty. So even if he is living in that one-bedroom apartment NOW, he'll be out of there soon. And he'll be out of touch once again. It's human nature. Everyone should seriously think about that.

Serious Question to Cabrera Supporters: If Cabrera lost this race, do you think he would continue living in that apartment?

  6. Shocking BP, Another dominican who seems to be loose in the loop. What a disgrace for the dominican people who really have nobody to represent them in the real issues that matters the most. What example is BP setting by endorsing an undercover republikan to all his dominican people of the bronx. I wish we have elections for bx borough presidents he would not have said tha and he would not get votes from his own people. What a digraces Rubencito, what a disgrace. Do you know who were Duarte, Sánchez y Mella by anychance?

  7. Oh well that's politics for you!

  8. Packing my bags and getting out of here!

  9. I've lived in the district for 16 years and consider myself an active resident.

I'm sorry but Cabrera, call him a Pastor or Doctor, is not the perfect fit for our community. I am sure he has great qualities but 1) he's always been a Republican and 2) he has not lived here long enough to know hands-on the issues our community endures day in and day out. I was not planning on voting but given the seriousness of the times, I am voting for Maria Baez 9although I really was not hoping to given her track record).

    ReplyDelete
  10. Dear Josefina, you are entitled to your opinions and the right to vote. If Maria is the best candidate for you, then go for it. Just remember when things continue to go bad...YOU VOTED FOR HER!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Wait a second. TAPIA YOU ENDORSED REUBEN DIAZ JR. and now that you did not get his endorsement, you throw your narcistic temper trandrums AGAIN. This is better than a novela. TAPIA ENDORSED BOROUGH PRESIDENT REUBEN DIAZ JR. AND NOW THE BOROUGH PRESIDENT ENDORSES CABRERA. Translation, Tapia says I believe in the judgment of the Borough President and his judgment is that Cabrera is the best candidate. Tapia stop being so jealous and immature about the Cabrera receiving all of thes major endorsements. Yudelka goes around telling people that Cabrera has no Domincan roots. She is such a liar. It is sad how low someone will stoop down to try to come against Cabrera. It is like saying President Obama is not African American. What an isult! It just speaks of her flaw character. I truly feel sorry for the people who blindly follow her. Tapia must have told her people that she was going to get the Borough President's support. Well, she lied to you again, like those who worked for her before and now are helping Cabrera.

I can't even imagine anyone voting for Maria Baez who has THE WORST attendance record in the city council, under investigation by the feds, anti-tenant advocate and do nothing for the community.

All of the elected officals, unions and community leader endorsements speak loudly that Cabrera IS the right candidate. I am so excited that we will have true leadership in Fernando Cabrera.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Anonymous, Cabrera does not live in a one bed room apartment. You are so misguided. Second, Cabrera has lived longer in the Bronx than any other place. Your residency issue attack won't work. Cabrera has helped thousands of people of every social economic background. His daughter has ONLY attended Bronx schools. So please, let's stop the political smoke screens. LOL. People are smarter than that. Cabrera you have my support.

    ReplyDelete
  13. While speaking to Cabrera last week he told me that he lived in many places, including san diego, orange county (fancy), puerto rico, etc. According to the board of elections, he moved into Sedgwick a year ago. Also the Yudelka camp wasn't expecting an endorsement from the Bronx President, although she was there for him for most of his political career. Where was the rev? Plus I have yet to see any photos or coverage of Cabrera at the Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade or Dominican Parade? Anyone would care to show me them/

    ReplyDelete
  14. Juan Quintana, What temper-tantrum has Yudelka Tapia thrown towards Ruben Diaz Jr.? She did endorse him and she has never retracted her endorsement or said anything against it.

Yudelka does not comment on this blog, so don't quote her, or attribute an of these quotes to her. Her supporters are expressing their own opinions, which they have the right to do, just as Cabrera's supporters are doing.

    Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anonymous, you should be representing her views. So when you make your point, you are representing her. Are you saying that she does not agree with what has been said by her supporters?

    ReplyDelete
  16. The apartment that Fernando Cabrera owns on Sedgwick Ave is a one-bedroom apartment. And he voted in the Republican Primaries in Pelham in February of 2008. It is public record.

And while his daughter may have attended Bronx schools, he is quoted in the Norwood News as saying that he moved to Pelham to find better schools for his "KIDS". Guess Bronx schools weren't good enough for junior.

These are facts, not "political smoke screens". Just because you negate them doesn't make them not true.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Juan,

I'm saying that her supporters are entitled to their own opinions and to draw their own conclusions. Yudelka Tapia is not running a church; the people who support her think independently.

As residents of the district, we represent our own views because we have a stake in this race. No one on this blog has ever written: "Yudelka thinks...". Unless you can quote her with something that is on the record, don't quote her.

And yes, I am saying that she does not always agree with what her supporters say; she shouldn't. This is not groupthink.

So stop with the nonsense. You are fueling the same rumor-mongering that you are speaking out against.

    Thanks again.

    ReplyDelete
  18. As a mother of three supporting Cabrera I'm beginning to have a change of heart. Cabrera always seems to be attacking Yudelka's temper? Why does Cabrera insist on painting her as a hissy fit throwing woman? I met her yesterday on Fordham and I think she is actually a decent and composed individual. Fernanado Cabrera please stop your insulting sexist remarks against Yudelka Tapia. If you're going to attack her, at least attack her on real issues. You're really turning off female voters in the 14th district. Including me!

    ReplyDelete
  19. now thats funny.............i saw 2 photos of fernando cabrera at the parade...in 2008 and 2009...declaring his democratic candicacy for the 14th council district.....but......if he was on hif float declaring for the democratic nomination in june/july of 2008..........wasn't he still a republican?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Gladys...Cabrera is not speaking, I am. My remarks are not sexist, they are based on facts.Anonymous, you are the one giving wrong information...he does not live in a one bedroom apartment. I can tell you have never been to his condo. So stop the false remarks.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Antonio, Antonio...as a self proclaimed reported, I am surprise that you have not done your homework. Try again.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am extremely upset at BP Diaz Jr's desicion to endorse Fernando Cabrera. I have been Mr. Diaz Jr speak at various events at how he is a "victim of teenage pregnacy" and how is happy to be the Bronx Borough president to help bring the Bronx back on the map but how do you endorse someone who left the Bronx for a better life. I have always agreed with you because I myself have been a victim of teenage pregnacy and I have lived with my family here in the Bronx for over thirty years and my children are Professionals that also live in the Bronx. Mr. President you decided to stay and did not leave and could have . He goes against your own views and you dare call him a "perfect fit", how dare you?I am deeply ashamed of you Mr. Diaz Jr. I expected more from you. As a Puerto Rican woman that raised her children in the Bronx and will stay in the Bronx I support Yudelka Tapia!

  26. Why has everyone forgotten that Maria Baez is running and she's the incumbent. How about anyone who wins besides Maria is at least something better than a no show. If Tapia supporters were so concerned about the Bronx they would not be working against and critizing and spreading false things about a candidate who is not Maria Beaz. Seriously!
How about you focus on that, and let the best person win. AND i believe that their was a post regarding name calling etc. If your so interested in how many bedrooms he has call his office, ask for him and quote him properly. Orange County?!?!?!? Are you kidding me? Where do you guys pull this stuff out of?! A couple of things...
Two things I like about Cabrera:
His stand on Education. It's important that children of the Bronx get a proper education and classrooms that are not overcrowded. He is a proven minority, he went all the way with education. When the odds were against him he got a Dr. He is a good role model for every minority in the Bronx that it can be done. And I know he will begin to make a way for every minority in the Bronx. He will fight so that everyone can get equal opportunities and yes so that children in the Bronx can get the perks of the Pelhamites.
Secondly, I hope he plans on taking the landlords down! Apartments in the Bronx are not kept up. People are living in hazardous conditions.
Cabrera is gonna make it happen! go CABRERA!

  27. no, mr rivieccio has seen the picures, as a good journalist does

but ask the organizers of the parade....they will be glad to tell you or show you

or give us a few days...and well put it on our blog

PS And im glad to see the boro president---ruben sr....finally blessed mr cabrera....now the northwest bronx knows exactly what is happening here---like espada......northeast side bronx trying to take over the northwest side.......like Liberty Democratic association (Jimmy Vacca's club) and Director Ken Agosto-outsiders-trying to take over the riverdale section and backing tony cassino

like i said in an earlier thread.........if we do not support our own nwb people.......the northeast is trying to take over

    ReplyDelete
  28. a good journalist???...you gotta be kidding me!!....Anthony nobody reads you junk. if your such a good journalist why havent you wrote anything that is worth reading and blogging about??...answer that mr. "journalist"

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dear All,

I am so convinced that Yudelka has been paying interns to be on these blogs and attack Cabrera's character.

Good job....keep it up! If you are trying to convince people not to vote for Cabrera, you are actually making it worse for Yudelka. You are allowing the votes to be divided....and Yudelka will end up in last place. Maria is having a feast....haven't you noticed you don't hear anything about her, you don't hear her trying to blemish Yudelka's or Cabrera's character...Think about it.....she is just sitting behind her rocking chair in the poconos. Laughing at all of you and seeing HER VICTORY AT THE END! Because Yudelka decides to attack the wrong person.

Yudelka's people if you are trying to get attention and have all those who support cabrera back out, so she can be running neck on neck with Maria? Great revelation, Yudelka will still not win - Maria will. So if you are really concern about the community, think about what you are doing.

Oh yeah the the "KID" who called the office to get the facts about Cabrera's home...give him a brownie point, he actually called to get the real facts.

Anthony - you are in the same boat as Yudelka, no one is paying any mind to her. Everytime Cabrera gets an endorsement you go through your rejection issues. No one wants to know about you or what you have to say.....haven't you noticed.....no one is giving you an attention or thought of what you have to say.

Oh and why hasn't Yudelka gotten her match money.......keep record of your time.... you might not get paid!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Here we go again. Cabrera moonies pointing fingers. I have not yet made up my mine on who to vote for, but you guys are sure making it easy. All you do is BLAME BLAME BLAME. I heard it is your Rev. that is paying people to vote for him.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Baez Will Win....We Can Not Allow A Rev. Diaz In The West Bronx....These Revs Belong in Church Not In Politics....You Can Not Govern Based On Your Believes....Baez Is The Clear Choice....

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hey everyone I'm BAAaaack!

It good to keep in mind JORDAN's admonishment recently. Let keep to the issues and away from the insults. I'm not sure that gaps between teeth, a councilwoman’s weight is in any way relevant to this race.

However a candidates political affiliation, were he lives and if he is lying to the voters is very relevant.

By the way that reporter Mr. Riveccio makes a good point. How was Cabrera campaigning as a Democrat in the parade last year if he had not yet registered either as a Democrat or a Bronx resident.

    On the Diaz endorsement...
Yudelka Tapia and her Great Alliance Democratic Club has supported Diaz in just about every race he has had. They have carried petitions for him since the days he was truly Rubencito.

The fact that he has chosen to support a Conservative Republican from Westchester over a grassroots Democrat / Activist from the Bronx speaks more about our brother Rubencito then it ever would about Ms. Tapia.

On another note did you see Yudelka's updated website WWW.YUDELKATAPIA.COM ? Learn more about her issues positions. Let’s talk issues.

also visit http://bxcommonsense.blogspot.com/ and discuss if or why Cabrera is lying to the community.

    ReplyDelete
  33. A poster made a good point. with Cabrera and Tapia people tearing each other apart...Baez is laughing. I'm a cabrera supporter but I would rather have Yudelka than Maria. So Tapia and Cabrera supporters should attack Baez lack of representation. FYI Maria Baez filing is in and she took a check from PETER FINE...the same Peter Fine whose office was ransacked by the Manhattan DA...Enough of Baez..please!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. wait your so on point about her filings but the only reason cabrera has not taken one is because they have not offered him one...he clearly made a statement in the paper where he says he has not but does not mean he will not...so please let it go...

    ReplyDelete
  35. So to the previous poster you believe its okay that she took a check from someone who is being investigated by the DA. Unreal, she is so ethically challenged that you think its okay. NO MORE BAEZ

    ReplyDelete
  36. so wait...its okay for him to receive an endorsement by someone who is under investigation?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I Guess Cabrera's People Could Not Make Up A Lie....=)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Cabrera has lied about living in Pelham and being a republican.(Which is all documented by Westchester County). Yet Mr.BP and Bronx Democrat County Committee have endorsed him. BDCC and Mr. BP have a unique opportunity to rectify what we are assumming is an error, by retracting its support for Cabrera and apologizing to the community. Remaing silent they will not be practicing the REFORM they keep professing and will be betraying the poor community of the Bronx. Cabrera is a Westchester Republican.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Enough, enough, enough! As a resident of the district for more than 16 years, I have never heard of any of these two candidates. Recently, I passed by a former tax preparation office and noticed the signs for Yudelka Tapia, but who the hell is she and how will she benefit the ENTIRE community!

    ReplyDelete
  40. You should of walked into her office and asked. Voters are always welcomed. If you do not feel comfortable enough to walk in, you may visit her campaign website at www.yudelkatapia.com. There you can look at her platform and read her Bio. In addition she is the only candidate in this race offering voters the unique opportunity to ask her a question in an online forum. Hope that helps. Don't forget to vote for Yudelka Tapia in the Democratic primaries on September 15. Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  41. All this talk about the residence issue but what about the man himself, Mr Cabrera who are you really and your true motive for running? Watching you in Church and hearing you week after week you are really a great showman. Was NewLifeoutReach just a platform for this new post? What happens to the Churh now? Will your underlings run it for you? what happen to our contributions to the new Church will that sit as the 911 site is now? The community should do alittle more research on how you run other people's money before allowing you this post. You have been losing long standing members from the Church at a record pase is anyone following current events? They say in the land of the Blind the one man is King. It is not God that is leading the people.....it's you. May the good Lord protect you in your trouble times.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Here goes the TRAITOR blogging the same noncsence over and over again.....get over it and continue 2 support your losing canidate.YEA U!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Maria and Yudelka did not get their matching funds....I wonder why? They probably took illegal money and are under investigation.

  44. I have no problem being one of the people that helps Cabrera in his church as he tackles this new venture. Motive you say? Hmmmm...it's hard for you to understand, I get it.
If you really knew him, you wouldn't being talking such nonsense. Apparently you missed alot of memos, oh wait I think you got the ones from Baez or Yudelka...
Whatever the case may be. Cabrera has my vote, my families vote and my friends votes. He also has my time at his disposal so we can WIN!
Why do we want to WIN...
its simple...to bring help-real help to the people of the Bronx.

    ReplyDelete
  45. So then don't come week after week... stay home. Because whether he wins or not...New Life remains.

    ReplyDelete
  46. PEOPLE YOU NEED TO DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK, NOT JUST FORM OPINIONS BY WHAT YOU HEAR OTHERS SAY.
FUNNY, I INVESTIGATED WHERE THE MONEY FROM CABRERAS CAMPAIN FUND CAME FROM. THERE WERE A COUPLE OF NAMES OF HIS CONGRAGANTS THAT GAVE MONEY TO THE CHURCH AND THE MONEY WAS PUT INTO HIS CAMPAIN FUND INSTEAD. I KNEW THEY DID NOT SUPPORT HIS CANDIDACY AND I CONFIRMED IT WITH THEM. LOOKED AT SOME OF HIS SPENDITURES, WHY WAS ONE MONTH OF HIS RENT PAID OUT OF HIS CAMPAIN FUND? IS THAT HOW THE MONEY IS SPENT. HECK I SHOULD RUN, I COULD USE A BREAK FROM MY OBLIGATIONS FOR A MONTH.
