Heastie talks party policy on BronxTalk

This week, BronxTalk featured an interview with the Chairman of the Bronx County Democratic Committee, Assemblyman Carl Heastie. Heastie spoke with host Gary Axelbank about party policy and philosphy, specific candiates and their support, and a variety of other Bronx political issues. He also took phone calls from viewers.

The program provides unique, in-depth insight into the workings of the so-called Bronx Democratic Party machine. Here's a link to the entire program: http://bronxnet.fliggo.com/video/Bx8CgXHg.

BronxTalk, the borough's flagship talk show, will celebrate its 15th anniversary this October. It is seen live on Monday nights at 9 p.m. on channel 67 in the Bronx and streamed live on the web at http://bronxnet.org/home/live/webstreamtrial.html. Great job Gary!!! Finally someone asking Heastie some real questions, albeit censored but asking them nonetheless. Heastie is incompentent and inexperienced and it will show on September 15. Heastie is a hypocrite and does not want to own up to the fact that he made a mistake in the 14th, based on all the points that Axelbank mentioned.

And saying that it was the district leaders who unilaterally decided is a bold-faced lie. Hector Ramirez is a district leader, and wanted to run for city council, until he was promised county support in next year's assembly race in the 86th. Heastie says he is about change, but he represents the same old crooked, deal-making politics that the Bronx is infamous for.

Heastie's greatest fear is genuine, homegrown leaders with true grassroots support and deep ties to the constituents. That is the biggest threat to his "leadership", which is based on onscurity, misinformation, nepotism and low-voter turnout.

The facts remain that Cabrera is a Conservative Republican that does not live in the Bronx, as Axelbank mentioned. This is all quantified with his voting record, voter registration and educational background. He is against gay marriage and a woman's right to choose. He is not in line with the views of the residents of the 14th district. Heastie is embarrassing himself by continuing to dismiss all of these FACTS as insignificant.

  4. Carl Heastie is finally bringing honesty and sincerety to the process. Fernando Cabrera is the right choice for district 14. He has lived in the Bronx longer than any other place. Carl is right. The opposition is looking for a distraction, since they have nothing else on Cabrera. Let's talk about Cabrera graduating from Argosy University, which is a progressive liberal university. Let's stop with the labeling and let's look at the track record. Maria Baez has the record for the worst attendance of any council member, investigated by the feds for slush funds crooked illegal actions and lives in the Poconos. It would have been a disgrace to endorsed her. The Democratic Party, Working Families Party and the unions have spoken loud and clear - Fernando Cabrera is the right man to lead us in the 14 district. This was a good interview, with honest answers.
