Tapia Gets Her Matching Funds

Today, Yudelka Tapia received $72,721 in public matching funds from the city Campaign Finance Board.

On two prior occasions, Tapia, a City Council candidate in the 14th District, had been denied the funds because her campaign, she said, hadn't submitted the required documentation.

Tapia's opponents - Maria Baez, the incumbent, and Fernando Cabrera - have so far been awarded $70,170 and S81,670 respectively.

The next (and final) payment date is scheduled for Sept. 11, four days before the primary.

  1. That's right! Tapia is pure grassroots and from the community. I know I'm supporting the right candidate for city council. I hope the voters realize that she is really the one who knows the struggle and has a sincere urge to make the community a better place.

  2. Tapia received well below what Cabrera received. Again, she received her matching funds weeks after Cabrera did. She was sloppy in her paper work. This is a sign of poor administrative and leadership skills. The same can me said of Maria Baez, who was also late in receiving her campaign matching funds. Cabrera was the ONLY one to receive it the first time around.

    You are claiming pure grassroots and yet you state in your website that you have receive a couple of local union endorsement. The contradictions in this campaign continues.

    Congrats to our great Dama (lady) Yudelka Tapia from District 14th. Even with the delayed the machine created, she got her fundings.

    Her humbleness is to be admired.

    From her Political Activism

    She helped to elect Adolfo Carrion for City council and for borough president as well as Rubencito for assemblyman.

    With the foundation of the great Democratic Alliance club, her work is still impacting the Bronx, specifically district 14th.

    My respect for her.

  4. Juan Quintana, get over yourself. The fact is that she has her matching funds now. And she will have the resources necessary for election day.

    Yudelka Tapia's campaign is absolutely grassroots. She is not being supported by any institution or establishment; her campaign keeps moving simply because of the dedicated volunteers who really want to see change in the community. Besides, it was James Fergusson who called her campaign grassroots. He did the profile on her, he saw first-hand what her campaign is comprised of.

    Now, Cabrera is still a Republican from Westchester.

    Tapia is a life-long Democrat who has lived in the Bronx and knows first-hand what the struggle is.

  6. Tapia lied about her involvement with the old Fordham Library. She lies in her website regarding having the endorsement of the Mason Tenders. She lies regarding Cabrera being a Republican. She lied about Cabrera daughter.

    No, it does matter that she got her campaign matching late. It shows incompetency. I expect more of a candidate.

    Are you implying that union support is not grassroots? What an insult to all of the unions!
    Cabrera received more union support than anyone else. Let's stop the hypocrasy, because Yudelka was salivating for the endorsement of the Democratic party, but did not get it. Most union and organizations DID NOT want to support for obvious reasons - she does not have what it takes.

  7. At this point all candidates are at the same level with and without all union support. Yudelka got her matching funds and shut up all the machines that were trying to keep them away from her. Although the Fordham Library serviced people from all district it is unfourtanately not in our District. So is this Cabrera's claim to fame, c'mon? Yudelka will win this campaign the same way Obama beat Hillary!

    I smell change coming to the BRONX!

    A real democrat, living in the Bronx, AND in the same district since the 80's. That's dedication, accountability and authenticity.

    Just google her name "YUDELKA TAPIA." Google is the best indicator/search out there for track record (policatically/ civically). And there's some of her involvement she did way back where google was not even around yet that are not listed.
    I encourage you to google the names of the candidates and then..... talk among yourselves.

    Now I googled him but I am, am soooo confused........!!!!

    I did not know Cabrera was a baseball player....wow!!!!!!!!! no wonder he likes cleaning park so much.

    Well, I don't think he would do a good public servant just like he was not able to be a "perfect attendance" board member of CD7.

    1. Cabrera is not a flip flopper as you accuse him of. A flip flopper is someone who goes back and forth. He was once a republicant and switch to Democrat ONCE.....!

    2. If you read the rules and regulations to run for office...he has and falls under the guideliness of residency.

    3. She only "helped" in Diaz and Carrion's campaign.....so did Cabrera. And Cabrera worked with Carrion under his administration.

    4. What are you afraid of? That he attended and conservative University.....you forgot that was for his BA, you never mention his Doctoral degree University.

    You only chose what you want to believe.

    None of your arguments are valid and cause to be removed from running.

    GET OVER IT, YUDELKA'S PEOPLE ARE DESPERATE. CABRERA IS THE WINNER HERE!

    You mean when he was a board member of community board 7 under Carrion?

    There's nothing accredited to him while serving there, in fact he blew it by missing in action in the general meetings and his committee meetings.

    That was his opportunity to make an impact as an outsider that he has always been (until last May) but DID NOT.

    The only credit he could get (UNPAID) is a cleaning of a park in District 14, but that's about it. So he would serve better as park commissioner.

    P.s. I could imagine him with a dark green shirt with the maple leaf in the back and khaki pants. Lovely!

    I don't understand why that makes certain people angry. If anything, it levels the playing field, so that things can be fair on election day.

    How about you google Fernando Cabrera For City Council??....How about you type www.FernandoCabrera.us??...How about checking out the sites of 1199, 32BJ, DC37, Bronx Dem Party, BP Ruben Diaz Jr's and etc.....Check those site out!....and please take your corny north west jokes back. Better yet I got some more for you to look up....

    How about you google the real mother of Anthony Baez because it sure isn't absentee council member Baez!!. How about you google Baez's name and include Slush funds in it. LOL!!....How about you google which elected official has really endorsed her?...because it sure isn't Bill thompson who she has standing on her right side on her re-elect palm cards.     Cabrera is the was the 1st and Only candidate to C0MPLETELY hand in his paperwork and receive his matching funds ON TIME!!!. Cabrera is the 1st and Only candidate that has received JUST ABOUT EVERY endorsement there is to receive, BEING A 1st TIME CANDIDATE!!!. He is the TRUE PROMISE FOR NEW LEADERSHIP IN D14!!!

    Ooh James your back!!!!. I cannot not believe it!, where have you been??. Well I see wherever you've been you still haven't lost your touch. Speaking of touch!...(touches face)...I wish I had yours. James your back and better then ever. I cannot waitt!!, I'm counting down the days till sept 15. I will find you!!. Mr. Cabrera could marry us right??...cause he's a reverend soo on sept we can finally become the couple I've always dreamed of. 0oh James I see that Cabrera is dominating the debates and he is putting his hands to the plow. I saw him by the way, he was leaving a building nearby Sedgwick and conversing with a few people in front of the building.

    Finally, a council member that is out there knocking on doors and visiting buildings. Come to think of it I saw yudelka tapia on fordham not too long ago selling her phony endorsement stories to people. also james maybe you can comment about it and tell me what is up with those teeth??...I mean DAMN!!!!...you can scare someone with those things.

    Ewww that is gross Jenny!!. But look on the bright side she sure nows how to choose a candidate. Fernando Cabrera is the man!!!. I happen to be flipping channels on my t.v. and I see he had a debate w/ Tapia. Well done Cabrera, its about time that we have a council member that knows the issues we face in this district and bronx itself. Does Tapia have any hearing issues??, I mean she couldn't even answer questions correctly and fully. Not to mention that you could hardly understand her. I talk with a accent myself because I am from puerto rico but I'm not running to become a elected official either. I have to agree with James, I saw that she mentioned being a single parent about 4 times and having 3 son's about 3 times. Is that your only excuse and answer to everything??. James brought out a good point, if you raised your sons so well in education and in values that you follow then why are they not active in the community or activists at all??...I'm curious to see who can answer your questions James. Well done! Cabrera has my vote on sept. 15

  31. Very interesting. Cabrera people want us to keep an eye on how the other two candidates spend their money. Well they should check him. If you go into his filing, you will see that he has paid one of his endorser (District Leader Venancio (Benny) Catala) over $21,000.00.This is Stanley Schlein right hand guy. Also, Ruben Diaz $7000.00. If these people are your friends and support you why give them so much money. Money that hard working people have donated. Cabrera you are being milked. So Cabrera people stop pointing fingers and check out what your boss is doing with his money. And don't call it slander it is in black and white.

    I'm still waiting to learn when Cabrera was on community board 7. I was one of the few residents to actually attend meetings and if I'm not mistaken I remember seeing Cabrera only at couple of times but that is it? He was at very few.

    For how long was he a CB member? Anyone?

  36. What does her teeth have to do with anything? I mean i'm not a Yudelka supporter but wats appeareance got to do with it? Our current city council memeber weighs about 1000 lbs, but thats not the reason why she shouldnt be reelected. Lets talk about the work, cuz looks have NOTHING to do with it guys!
