The city’s decision to layoff over 700 public school aides and other support titles has angered Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr.
“I am calling on Mayor Bloomberg to rethink this move, in light of the negative effect it will surely have on the public school students of the Bronx and the entire City,” Diaz said.
According to a press release from the Borough President’s office, 714 employees will be laid off city wide, including 208 workers in the Bronx.
Job titles in jeopardy include: lunch workers, schools aides, Substance Abuse Prevention and Intervention Specialists, community associates, community assistants, and community coordinators.

This is Mark Rodriguez from The Political Parent Party and although I feel Ruben Diaz Jr. did not do enough for our children as a NYS Assemblyman with respect for an equal parenting law; I do applaud and commend him for standing up against King Michael Bloomberg when it comes to our school children. It is a shame that this man has become a mayor for the rich and privileged and has forgotten the needs of the poor and middle class. What is more shameful is the level of ignorance of our own people that we can be content with the crumbs that are thrown to us from City Hall. That is why I urge ALL of you to stand up for our Borough President and tell Mike Bloomberg to kiss our Bronx Ass when it comes to cutting jobs and services. At least Ruben Diaz Jr. has the guts to speak out on our behalf and our school kids!
